DEFIANCE Coming October 1997 everywhere computer games are sold. Defiance requires Microsoft DirectX 3.0 or greater. If you do not have DirectX installed on your computer, you will need to download it in order to play the Defiance demo. If you find the game too dark or too light, change the gamma setting by clicking on the video button in the startup panel. This should correct the problem. *** If you run the game and it comes up with a black screen It's probable that your video card does not support the currently selected mode. 1. Double click on the 640X480.bat, this will launch the game at 640 X 480 resolution. 2. Delete the Defiance.cfg file and restart the game. *** If you find your ship spinning uncontrollably. Your joystick is not properly setup in windows. To set it up... 1. Double click on 'My Computer' 2. Double click on 'Control Panel' 3. Double click on 'Joystick' (or 'Game Controllers') 4. Set 'Joystick selection' to the joystick you have connected or to (none). 5. Click on 'Calibrate' and follow the directions. 6. Click on 'OK' Your ship should no longer be spinning. *** Improving Performance on slower machines. Each of these will speed up the game. It's recommended that you try them in order and only do as many as are required to make the game perform acceptably. From the Video dialog change your Screen Size (making it smaller will make the game go faster). From the Sound dialog turn 'Stereo' to 'Off'. From the Sound dialog turn 'Mixing' to 'Faster'. From the Sound dialog turn the music volume all the way down. This will stop the music from streaming. From the Sound dialog turn the sound volume all the way down.
